Cellulite is the lumpy substance resembling cottage cheese that is commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and butt. Cellulite is actually a fancy name for collections of fat that push against the connective tissue beneath a person’s skin, which causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and look lumpy.

You can check to see if you have cellulite by pinching the skin around your upper thigh. If it looks a bit lumpy, you probably have it. And if you do have cellulite, you’re definitely not alone: Most girls and women – and some men – have cellulite.

Several factors influence whether a person has cellulite and how much they have. Your genes, your gender, the amount of fat on your body, your age, and the thickness of your skin are all associated with the amount of cellulite you have or how visible it is.

Those creams can make you look better temporarily but to *really* firm the skin and/or improve cellulite you have to address the underlying muscle tissue and fat issues and topical creams can’t really do that.

An interesting study was done on cellulite creams about, I’d say off the top of my head, about 15 years ago. They found that the creams that instructed you to "massage for 5 minutes" worked much better than the ones that just said to rub them in. They did further studies and guess what? It’s the MASSAGE–not the cream that improves your cellulite.

I hope that helps.

I’ve been told that drinking LOTS of water helps with skin elasticity and stretch mark prevention, but once you have stretch marks, there’s unfortunately not much you can do, aside from surgical options. Nivia’s Goodbye Cellulite cream product is supposed to really work, according to the Tyra Banks show. She had some volunteers take it home and record their results, and they actually did look a lot better when done.

i have started gaining visible cellulite tissue in my tummy-buttocks n thighs….. n wonna avoid it. i m lil bit inactive these days. …i wonna target these tisue only as i m in my normal range of weight…..pls help.

Well, unfortunately there isn’t any way to specifically target cellulite areas or remove them. The term cellulite refers to the orange peel look on the surface of the skin, but that’s not where the problem actually is. It’s far below the skin surface, in the fat stored beneath. Your genetic directions have placed it too close to the skin, and it presses against the connective tissue holding all those skin cells together. Fat cells are rather uneven, where skin cells are somewhat brick shaped. So the fat cells press unevenly against the skin, which causes the dimples and puckers to appear. While you can reduce the total amount of fat in your body, you don’t get to choose where it all comes from. Matter of fact, fat reduction will come from all over the body. Worst of all, liposuction won’t work either. The body will simply replace it, and the process will damage skin connective tissue in the process- and you can end up with bigger dimples. About the only thing you can do is tone the muscle underneath it all, and control the overall body weight. I suppose you can also say nasty things about great-great-great Aunt Agatha as well. Unfortunately no matter what you do, some of the cellulite will just be with you. If there truly were a cure, you’d never see movie stars with it, nor plastic surgeons or dermatolgists. Whoever does manage to come up with a cure will be a gazillionaire. But as of yet, it doesn’t exist. For what it’s worth, really skinny, fit folks can still suffer from it too. Men just get a break because they don’t have as much body fat underlying the skin. Then again, that’s why we are soft and cuddly, and they aren’t. Sorry dear, but you will have to live with some of it. Keep the weight down, exercise to maintain tone, and try to keep a sense of humor about what’s left. Save your money on the products, they don’t work. The problem isn’t the skin, so they can’t work. Anything that promises to dissolve it is lying. Anything that was strong enough to actually breakup or dissolve fat would not be healthy to put on your skin. Sorry, but it’s the truth.

has anyone had any experience with dry skin brushing and its help to lessen the appearance of cellulite?? i barely have any cellulite, but the lil bit i have i want gone! i heard dry brushing your skin can really help reduce it. does anyone know how long it takes to see any results?? ( and i know nothing is going to make it completely go away, i just want it reduced!)

Cellulite is bumpy fat. It’s genetic. The best you can do tighten your skin temporarily with some drugstore products or lose weight. It up there with large pores and thinning hair. It isn’t much we can do about them.

I had a baby several months ago. I am really back into great shape which I am proud of. I’m fitting into size 2-4, i’m pretty lean and have a ton of muscle tone. However, I now have cellulite and my skin needs to tighten up on my stomach and thighs. I can feel my abs are rock had underneath, but can see my skin is stretched. I know I might sound petty complaining about this, but I had six pack abs before getting pregnant and virtually no cellulite. My baby is 10 months and I just don’t feel like I’m ever going to get back to my former self.
Any supplements or food suggestions or even any topical agents that have actually worked for tightening skin or reducing cellulite would be helpful.
If you are going to say, "you should be happy with yourself and be thankful you have a healthy baby" please do not answer. I am happy but things can always be better:)

Ok, you are so in my territory.
This is something I accidentally stumbled on- I go to this health site for my older kid and they had a new tummy tightener listed- am 3 weeks into it, and my sag which was like 4 fingers down is now 1 and 1/2 fingers.
Uses orchid extract and other oils.
Their cellulite oil is also seeming effective, but havent been using it that long yet.

Cellulite is simply the "cottage cheese" appearance that occurs primarily on the thighs and buttocks but occasionally elsewhere. Women generally have a worse problem with cellulite than men. Cellulite is essentially just fat, and the dimpled appearance is due to the way the fat collects beneath the skin. It is very hard to get rid of.

However, I did notice that after I lost weight by watching what I ate and exercizing daily, and I slimmed down to a tiny size 3, most of my cellulite disappeared. I have gained ten pounds since then and some of it is back. I would like to think that the various anti-cellulite "skin firming" creams the sell in drugstores would work, but I don’t think they really do. As for the high-priced cellulite treatments they perform in spas, the improvement is termporary, minimal, and very expensive.

The best thing to do if you have cellulite is to exercize regularly, eat healthy foods, and wear clothes that cover it up!

Or is it also flabbiness and untoned that appears beneath the skin?

Its not to do with how fat a person can be because skinny people get cellulite and larger people can have none! Its to do with the distribution of fat under your skin. Sometimes cellulite can be caused by bad diet… unhealthy fats… you can make your cellulite go away by just massaging the cellulite area with a fair amount if pressure using a normal moisturizing cream, though it will take some time, don’t expect instant results!

Hi,
No, don’t do that! Get some proper anti-wrinkle cream! Cellulite cream would be too harsh on your face and may even make you come out in a rash… It wouldn’t resolve anything either because your skin on your face is different to that on your legs – it needs different chemicals to resolve any wrinkles..

Anti-wrinkle cream isn’t that expensive even if you get a good one – try L’Oreal Revitalift.

Good luck!

girl im in school for skin care and i will tell you the truth….no anti cellulite cream or gel works on anyone…if you truly want to get rid of cellulite go to a massage therapyst and ask for an anti cellulite treatment, its a series of massages that will not be exactly relaxing but after a few of them you will see results
the downside is you have to keep going, however thats the only thing that works
